The head constable of Poonamallee Crime Wing, a passive witness of the kidnap and murder of a financier, was arrested on Monday for not informing the police about the incident. Police issued summons to the policeman A Amalraj, 44, but he went on extended medical leave citing health issues. Inquiries revealed that Amalraj was a close friend of the main suspect L Venkateswaran alias Chotta.
Amalraj was present when deceased B Babuji was kidnapped and beaten up by a gang. But he could not inform the police because he was drunk, police said. He was booked under section 202 of the IPC. In February, financier B Babuji’s body was burnt near a garbage dump near Mangadu. Passersby found the body and informed the police.
